VEXA City by Spark

Two models, high precision

Available in two versions, VEXA City 3 MP and VEXA City 5 MP, the camera integrates 2 separate lenses, each optimized for a specific task.

The ANPR/OCR Global Shutter sensor at 60 fps, with a 12-40 mm lens, is dedicated to license plate reading (LPR) across 2 traffic lanes simultaneously, even at high speed, up to 250 km/h. Reading accuracy reaches 100%, certified to UNI 10772:2016 – Class A.

The Sony Ultra Night Vision context sensor provides a wide-angle view of the scene at the moment of capture, delivering full-color images even in low-light conditions, with automatic subject blurring for full privacy compliance.

Embedded video analytics

AI algorithms integrated directly onboard the camera enable automatic, real-time recognition of:

• License plate number
• Vehicle class
• Make (over 400 recognized brands, accuracy >95%)
• Model (over 9,000 models, accuracy >95%)
• Color (accuracy >95%)
• Nationality
• Direction
• Estimated speed

Additional features include ADR table reading for hazardous goods transport (Kemler/UN codes) and Fog-Fighter technology, designed to ensure reliable plate reading even in foggy conditions.

All processing is performed directly onboard the camera, with no need to stream video to external servers. Results are transmitted as structured metadata. Data security is ensured by AES256 encryption and HTTPS/FTPS protocols.

Inductive Loop

Sens-Cam AI can also operate as a virtual inductive loop. In this mode, the device replaces traditional in-ground physical sensors , such as standard inductance loops, by detecting the passage of vehicles or pedestrians through a detection zone configured via software.

In this way, Sens-Cam AI generates a digital event that can trigger panels, lights, barriers, traffic lights, or other external devices, further simplifying the infrastructure and increasing the system’s flexibility.

Application Examples

• Variable Message Signs: Sens-Cam AI activates a message on a roadside display when a vehicle approaches. Warnings such as “Slow Down”, “Pedestrian Crossing”, or “Heavy Traffic” are shown only when needed, improving both safety and communication.

• Smart Lighting: Sens-Cam AI automatically switches on lights or illuminated signals when pedestrians or vehicles are detected. On pedestrian crossings, cycle paths, or low-traffic roads, lighting is activated only when necessary, resulting in significant energy savings.

• Weigh-in-Motion (WIM): Sens-Cam AI acts as an entry sensor for vehicle dynamic weighing, replacing physical loops embedded in the road surface. The result is a simpler, less invasive, and more cost-effective system to install and maintain.

• Traffic Light Management: Sens-Cam AI detects the presence of vehicles at intersections and provides real-time data to the traffic light control system. This enables adaptive management of the red/green phases, improving traffic flow and reducing waiting times.

This device incorporates an onboard neural network accelerator that supports advanced applications based on embedded AI available in 3 sets:

Beyond AI: A Robust Feature Set

Sens-Cam AI is as powerful as it’s versatile. The device can be mounted both horizontally and vertically, ensuring the best perspective for vision. It’s equipped with a sunshield for protection against sunlight and rain, making it suitable for outdoor use. Moreover, it features a microSD slot for recording on the device, an IR illuminator with modulated light output, and heat sinks for improved heat dissipation. It also comes with an internal microphone and fixed optics for optimal vision.

Sens-Cam AI is available in two models: 2MP and 4K, both compatible with ONVIF profiles S and T. The device supports a range of video compression formats, including H265, H.264 high/main/basic, and MJPEG.

User-friendly Interface

Sens-Cam AI offers a simplified user interface for configuring analytics, events, recordings, and alarms. It supports multistreaming, creating and storing video streams at different resolutions, and transmitting independent streams. Traditionally, heatmaps are created using server-based systems, but thanks to the new Sens-Cam AI camera, heatmaps can also be generated directly from the device, exploiting the power of embedded artificial intelligence. Sens-Cam AI automatically distinguishes the elements in the scene, including people and their movements, using its neural network accelerator to process and provide the user with images and information such as the heatmap.

Embedded AI-based solutions are less expensive and more scalable. For example, Sens-Cam AI can process heatmaps, control accesses and count people, combining security and business intelligence purposes in a single device. It offers valuable metadata that can support the decision process.

For example, heatmaps allows shops and shopping centers to identify areas where customers spend more time. They help also in other contexts, such as airports, stations, offices, and wherever it is interesting to understand how people move.

ARGO analytics dashboard

With the latest release, ARGO platform supports Sens-Cam AI, the intelligent camera made by Spark, for data analysis. Using ARGO is now possible to acquire metadata from Sens-Cam AI – such as the number of vehicles and type – and to organize them in tables and graphs, with a special dashboard that can be easily customized.

Furthermore, ARGO 2022.2 integrates the heatmaps generated by Sens-Cam AI, which are now shown on the dashboard.

The latest version of ARGO includes an update of the ANPR module to show the license plate number in real-time on the map. Finally, the software now allows the two-way audio on supported devices.

Several companies are developing intelligent devices, and Sens-Cam AI is the Italian option. This camera is made in Reggio Emilia by Spark and uses Artificial Intelligence to process and return data along with images and videos.

Camera features

With DPControl and Bridge 129, Spark forms TTM Technology, a group that gathers different vision expertise for security purposes, industrial applications, smart city projects, and more in general for business intelligence.

Sens-Cam AI is the latest result of TTM’s research and development department and brings some interesting and distinguishing features. This device is equipped with a powerful neural network accelerator to detect and classify the different components of the scene. Sens-Cam AI is available in both indoor and outdoor versions. It supports horizontal (landscape) and vertical (corridor) installation to suit different contexts like shopping centers, stations, streets, parking lots, and many other.

Applications

Vehicle classification and counting on both carriageways. Various AI packs are available for Sens-Cam AI.

A single device fits many applications, from perimeter protection – for example, to detect people or vehicles – to access control – like opening gates according to customized rules, even with license plate recognition thanks to a specific Sens-Cam AI ANPR module.

Several AI apps are designed for retail, such as people counting, people density, and heatmaps (maps of the areas most frequented by people). Furthermore, Sens-Cam AI is used in traffic control projects, e.g. to detect pedestrians, unauthorized vehicles, to classify vehicles and collect statistics.

A standalone device

Since everything takes place onboard of the camera, Sens-Cam AI doesn’t require any server or cloud system and doesn’t burden the network bandwidth and infrastructure. This device is officially ONVIF compliant and sends metadata in real-time via HTTP, triggering automatic responses according to the user’s needs. Using ARGO software – the video management system developed by Spark – it is possible to store and export the information acquired by Sens-Cam AI and aggregate data in tables and graphs.
