The aim is to increase\u00a0pedestrian<\/strong> safety, reduce vehicle\u00a0traffic<\/strong>\u00a0and optimise public\u00a0transport<\/strong>, using a new smart vision<\/strong> system. The solution revolves around a\u00a0tip<\/strong>\u00a0installed on top of the existing traffic light poles, with two sensors inside facing the surrounding roads.<\/p>\n

The smart tip, already given the name of\u00a0Genius<\/strong>, will capture and process information about the position of available parking spaces<\/strong>, the presence of people at\u00a0pedestrian crossings<\/strong>, the number of\u00a0passengers<\/strong>\u00a0boarding and alighting from buses and trams and those waiting at bus\u00a0shelters<\/strong>. The metadata are then transmitted in real time to an cloud-based software platform by Envision, which provides useful information to car drivers and public transport network managers.<\/p>\n

TTM Technology<\/a> brought in the expertise of\u00a0DPControl<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Spark<\/strong> to quickly develop the project concept and turn the Genius smart tip<\/strong> into reality.<\/p>\n

Specifically, DPControl trained\u00a0neural networks<\/strong>\u00a0and automated\u00a0metadata<\/strong>\u00a0generation and produced the DAXPY platform using Sony’s IMX500\u00a0artificial-intelligence-based<\/strong> image sensor. At the same time, Spark took care of product<\/strong> engineering<\/strong>, designing the system for assembly and the adjustment of the optics and the various technologies in the\u00a0Genius smart tip<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Palo<\/p>\n

The Genius pole is a model of what a smart city<\/em> effectively means and how new computer vision <\/strong>technologies can help improve\u00a0quality of life<\/strong>, by increasing citizens’ security while respecting their privacy, improving the efficiency of public services and exploiting existing infrastructure to optimise operating costs.<\/p>\n

Citelum will take care of the physical installation of the tips, and the\u00a0testing\u00a0phase<\/strong> will begin in June in the centre of the capital. Indicators of the project’s effectiveness will be a reduction in traffic jams and the resulting pollution, a reduction in crowding on public transport and a decrease in accidents involving pedestrians.<\/p>\n
